With its name updated in 2013 from straight "Blanc de Blancs", it is now given the more significant name 'LONGITUDE'. Still made exclusively from Chardonnay grown on the Côte des Blancs: Vertus, Oger, Avize, Cramant, which form a line close to the 4th meridian. “Longitude” is also an allusion to the length and the very pure, frank and mineral style of these great terroirs, where the chalk is very close to the surface.
Pierre Larmandier grows all his own grapes and makes all his own Champagnes, which is quite rare within the region. He also eschews the use of chemicals, preferring to harness and work with natures own powers and ecosystem using biodynamics and essential oils. This gives vines that are unusually old, an average of 33 years old (In Champagne's larger estates replanting of exhausted vines happens every 25-30 years). His philosophy does mean he uses twice as much manpower per hectare but importantly allows the vines to express the unique character of these great crus. The soil is ploughed to ensure the roots grow deep into the chalk, preserving the soil‘s life and to moderate the yields… When maturity is optimum, the grapes are picked by hand.
More than two thirds of the wines are aged in casks or in foudres on natural lees for one year before bottling. These are then taken down into the coolness of the cellars for several years.
So fresh, full of fantastic quality fruit, and supremely quaffable.
Also availabe in magnums and occassionally double magnums.

In the June 2017 Decanter review of grower Champagnes, Larmandier-Bernier Longitude was one of only two Champagnes rated outstanding and received a resounding 95pts! WoodWinters have long recognised and championed this small family estate so we're delighted to see them continue to garner the accolades they so richly deserve.
