My wake up call comes at 7.30 on the final day. We check out of the Hotel and head west towards Lake Garda at 8.45. We arrive at Lake Garda early and have 45 minutes free time to sit on the edge of the Lake while the final winery prepares itself for our arrival.
Ca dei Frati
Ca dei Frati is probably the most famous producer of Lugana in the world. The winery is under half a mile from the lakes shores and they now own a restaurant that is right on the shoreline. The estate has been going since 1939 and is still family owned. The distinctive bottle shape is based on an old bottle that was found in the vineyards that is thought to date from over a century ago. The family owns close to 10% of all the land that is designated to the production of Lugana. The wines are impressive considering no other producer in the zone gets close to the quality they can achieve. The range is very consistent and sells out every year. The leading wine being Brolettino, which is a fuller style of Lugana than the I Frati release.
